At the end of last month we celebrated our second Breaking Bread feast at the farm. This one was a little different – we were celebrating the culmination of our Community Forest project (more on that to come soon!). Everyone who had been involved in the project over the last few years was invited for a celebratory feast at our farm, alongside our lovely friends from United Response and wider farm network.
And what a feast it was! The brilliant Sima from The Kitchen Table designed a menu of jacket potatoes with extra va-va-voom: spuds served with home made baked beans and sumac fried mushrooms, or slow-cooked beef, garnished with wild garlic oil, cheese and butter. We had a trio of fresh vibrant salads, the leaves of which were still in the soil in our garden only hours beforehand. ‘Tis the season for purple sprouting, and our hero brassica shone alongside a cauli & carrot salad with a tahini dressing and roasted seeds. Jaya was also making the most of nature’s bounty and whipped up some incredible acorn brownies and catkin cakes… it was empty plates all round!
Guests were invited to write a wish for the land and reflect on what the Community Forest project has meant to them, before being guided through a beautiful ceremony in Badger field overlooking the River Dart. Stay tuned for a video capturing the words, songs and sentiments of what was a very special commemoration!
