Breaking Bread

Breaking Bread: bringing diverse communities together

We’re delighted to announce we’ll be hosting a series of shared meals over the next year under the “Breaking Bread” project, funded by The National Lottery Awards for All. We hope to foster a sense of community amongst attendees as well as support United Response service users by providing them with opportunities to gain life skills.

We’ll provide 16 lunchtime meals over 12 months, so come and break bread with us!

What the project is about

The lunchtime meals will bring people together to build friendships in and across our set of different local communities.

We will encourage and support the potential of United Response Service Users (adults with learning difficulties) through employing them as lunchtime staff.

A bespoke field kitchen will provide the space we need to prepare healthy meals, some of which will also support those facing the cost-of-living crisis. A short distance away is the lunchtime meal view which provides an outstanding sense of place, whatever the weather.

Sourcing our ingredients and our pay-what-you-can system

We source as much of our ingredients as we can from the farm. When there’s something we can’t grow or rear, we use local and ethical farmers and producers to supply the rest.

Each meal costs £14.69 per person to provide.*

We operate on a pay-what-you-can system. This means we invite people to pay what they can afford, which allows as many of our community members as possible to enjoy a delicous, nutritous meal together.

All income from meal sales allow this project to grow.

*This takes into account direct costs of produce, consumables and staff time, and all the hidden costs that can often be overlooked.
