Sowing Seeds – new beginnings, new relationships, new ways of being together

Ushered into our training experience on the energy of a new moon and promising rays of sunshine, we spent our first week coming into a relationship with one another, our hosts, fellow trainees, the land, and programme facilitators.

By the end of the first day, we all felt an uncanny sense of connection and kinship as though it had been a few years not a few hours. This sense of knowing one another deepened as we circled up to share our journeys and motivations that brought us here together with openness, courage, and candour.

The warm and nutritious embrace Zoe, Leona, and Ursi offered fortified us for several days of intensive orientation to the farm, the land and the programme expertly facilitated by magic Mike and Jack the Beanstalk. Discussions in the yurt flowed easily, promising an engaging and enriching learning experience over the next three months. We all arrived with one aspect of the course we were most excited about and ended the week curious about everything!

The guys and gals of United Response provided joy and quality control to carry us through an afternoon of apple harvesting. Our day of picking was topped with the pleasure of cuddling on the couch with Romy’s special apple crumble and buckets of custard.

Friday brought a series of challenges enabling us to explore Totnes, quickly learning to avoid Morrison’s car park on a Friday morning! The week ended with a fabulous feast prepared by all the trainees, our dishes carefully curated to represent our collective selves (Korean/Canadian/English/American fusion food, anyone?).

After long days of learning, our evenings grounded us back into ourselves with yoga in the Yurt led by Jessica, Hatty, and Josh (and Adrienne). This space offered us time to reflect and to plant the seeds of our hopes and dreams for the next three months under the light of a beautiful new moon.

All in all, our first week of getting to know one another has been a warmer experience than the plunge some took into the Dart!
