Ambios was one of the most inspiring and transformational experiences of my life. I have always had a passion for nature and a growing desire to move into the environmental sector, but I was unsure how to pivot my career without undertaking another degree. Ambios offered a unique and practical opportunity to completely immerse myself in the world of rewilding for 16 weeks. From day one, Ambios exceeded all my expectations and confirmed that I had made the right decision with my career change. From ecology lectures, practical survey and field work, gardening, land maintenance, field trips and so much more, I experienced so many opportunities to develop hands-on skills, grow in confidence, and the space and encouragement to lean into my passions.
The course leaders were exceptional, with extensive first-hand experience of working in the sector. They created such a supportive learning environment, and their passion for all things nature was infectious! Having the opportunity to do fieldwork with expert ecologists, and the delight as we identified species, was one of the best parts of the traineeship.
I also gained so much from Ambios that I didn’t expect, beyond the course content; living with such a supportive and passionate group of trainees who became like family, the absolutely incredible organic food, the stunning location, being out in nature everyday, the creativity, and positivity for how we can make a difference. The community and support at Ambios is truly one of a kind.
I came to Ambios not really knowing what path to take in the sector, but it has provided the perfect springboard to identify and take my next steps. With Ambios’ helpful career advice, I have secured a 6-month voluntary traineeship with the RSPB where I will learn how to become a warden and manage a range of different reserves in Devon. I’m very excited about this next stage, and would not have had the confidence to do this without Ambios, so all I can say is thank you!
