Beach profiling is done once a week.  It takes  three people to measure the peaks and troughs of the beach going out to sea, to produce  a cross section of that part of the beach.

One person looks through the level tube and the other person adjusts the two-part vertical measuring staff and once the top is level with the horizon we note down the length of the staff.

A measuring tape is held out by the other person, we measure 60m into the sea and 5m back up the beach, at five metre intervals
