| The
CeCoCo
project is directed to helping people in their local efforts to
maintain sustainable quality of LIFE in coastal environments, through the
improvement of coastal zone management practices.
An underlying theme is 'connectivity', the bringing together in a positive fashion all the people and elements that interact within a coastal environment, to generate capacity, resource and enthusiasm for its well-being and long-term vitality. |
"The sea does not divide peoples... it unites them. In history water has always been an important means of communication between communities." |

| This CeCoCo pilot project is currently concerned with addressing local research and monitoring needs in Guatemala, on the inner Gulf of Honduras (Caribbean) and Pacific coasts. Managing any environment is not feasible until the complex physical, chemical and biological processes contained within its ecosystems are recognised. The skills required for this 'coming-to-knowledge' can only be partly acquired through a college education. Full capacity is best achieved through processes of demonstration and personal practical involvement. |

| During its development the CeCoCo project hopes to form flexible, symbiotic relationships with all local, national and regional stakeholders, to demonstrate and encourage effective and sustainable study of the environment, and the dissemination of the knowledge gained to all 'affected by' and 'affecting' the life of the coast. | |
|
This initiative is initially focused on a restricted number of sites in Guatemala, but once the pattern has been set is is envisaged that the CeCoCo 'franchise' could be adopted as an effective modus operandi by a range of partners throughout the regions coasts.
